Delft- Oh what a relief it was

About fifteen minutes by train from Rotterdam is the small city of Delft. After the rather tiring trip to Amsterdam, it was a refreshing change to go to this peaceful and beautiful place. We enjoyed both the old and new churches, as well as a visit to the Vermeer center which did an excellent job of enlightening us on the life and work of this master artist. No originals were there, but the reproductions and accompanying exhibits and information were clear and well presented. Lunch in a pleasant cafe was another plus to this visit.

We had a little time and energy left, so we hopped on a train to go to Den Haag, a few minutes down the line. It was like night and day from Delft, with all the buzz of a really busy city that hit us as soon as we got of the train and out of the station. We walked around for an hour, grabbed a snack and took a crowded train back to Rotterdam. All in all, a day well spent.
